Child Life and Education & Creative Arts Therapy Department at The Children's Hospital in Philadelphia)

Provides care and support designed to meet the unique needs of children and families as they cope with illness, injury, treatment, hospitalization and the overall healthcare experience. We do this by providing age-appropriate and therapeutic play, art therapy, music therapy, education, pet therapy, and so much more.

Our Programs and Services

  • Child Life Services: Child Life staff provides many opportunities to engage children in normal day-to-day activities, support their development and enhance their ability to cope with the hospital experience.
  • Creative Arts Therapies: Includes art therapy and music therapy
  • Gerald B. Shreiber Pet Therapy Program: The Gerald B. Shreiber Pet Therapy Program originated from the belief that dogs offer a therapeutic value to children that human family members and hospital staff cannot give.
  • Hospital School Program: By participating in the Hospital School Program, school-age children can continue to achieve academic goals and interact with peers.
  • The Sea Garden at the Seashore House: CHOP has opened a garden for patients and families on the third-floor rooftop playdeck of Children’s Seashore House
  • Patient Media Program: Galaxy 51 is the patient television network found on channel 51 of any CHOP television. Patients and families can participate in LIVE shows from the Hospital bedside by dialing 5-5555 on any CHOP phone or by visiting Seacrest Studios — a multimedia studio located in the Main Hospital’s Colket Atrium.
