Catholic Charities Diocese of Metuchen Independent Living Program Phillipsburg, NJ

The Catholic Charities Independent Living Program (ILP) located in Phillipsburg New Jersey consists of 4 apartments which are semi-supervised.  Staff are scheduled for 21 hours per day, and may be either at the office located within one of the apartments, or assisting residents with transportation.  Staff are available 24 hours per day for resident emergencies.

Referrals may be received from the Department of Children and Families, Care Management Organizations or through the adolescent Housing Hub found on the PerformCare website (PerformCarenj.org).

Residents will be interviewed in advance of placement at Catholic Charities.   Interested young adults must have a medical exam and negative drug and pregnancy tests 2 weeks prior to actual admission.

All residents must either work or go to school.  Staff will assist in both areas.  It is helpful for the resident to have an original birth certificate and social security card upon admission.  In addition, residents will work with the case manager on the Ansel-Casey Life Skills program in order to promote their success when living truly independently.  Residents also must agree to abide by the ILP’s “Resident Rules for Success”.  Failure to adhere to these rules has the potential for premature discharge.

Eligibility Eligible potential residents can be male or female, between the ages 18-21 and be currently homeless.
