Riding with HEART

The mission of Riding with HEART is to improve the quality of life of physically and cognitively challenged adults, children and their families and to provide youth development through our diversified equine assisted programs.

RWH is a PATH Intl. Member Center offering a wide range Equine Assisted Activities to individuals and their families. We provide a comprehensive, integrated and therapeutic environment to participants with a wide range of disabilities including, but not limited to, Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Traumatic Brain Injury and Blindness. In addition, our unmounted Equine Assisted Learning/Psychotherapy program partners with horses tackling such issues as; family and relationship therapy, depression, bereavement, children-at- risk and women's issues.

Programs:

  • Adaptive Therapeutic Riding: Adaptive horseback riding is a recreational activity that teaches horseback riding skills that are adapted to each individual’s abilities and goals.

  • Hippotherapy: According to the American Hippotherapy Association, Inc. ”The term Hippotherapy refers to how occupational therapy, physical therapy or speech and language professionals use evidence based practice and clinical reasoning in the purposeful manipulation of equine movement to engage sensory, neuromotor, and cognitive systems to achieve functional outcomes.  In conjunction with the affordances of the equine environment and other treatment strategies, hippotherapy is part of a patient’s integrated plan of care”.

  • BraveHEARTs Equine Assisted: The BraveHEARTs Equine Assisted Learning Program will serve members of all branches of the military, veteran and active duty members as well as all law enforcement and first responders and their families.

  • Social Skills Group: Riding with HEART’s Social Skills Group is a specialized program for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, related developmental disorders, ADD, ADHD, and learning disabilities.

  • Equine Assisted Learning: Equine-assisted learning (EAL) is an experiential learning approach that promotes the development of life skills for educational, professional and personal goals through equine-assisted activities.

  • Summer Learning: Our inclusive summer Learning Programs bring together children ages 5-13 with and without disabilities in unique lessons designed to promote tolerance, acceptance and fun through equine-related activities.

  • Volunteering: Volunteers are a vital part of the RWH team and essential to a successful therapeutic riding program. Volunteers assist riders with disabilities by leading, side walking, grooming and tacking up horses. Volunteers also have the opportunity to take part in varied barn chores and assisting with fundraising events.

  • Peer Lessons: Riding with HEART is an inclusive riding program that offers riding lessons to parents, siblings and volunteers in our Peer Lesson program. While Riding with HEART's focus is on Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies, Peer Lessons enhance the equine experience for all.
