Matheny is a special hospital and school for children and adults with medically complex developmental disabilities and a comprehensive outpatient center meeting the healthcare needs of people with all types of disabilities in the community.

Matheny Hospital

• Many of the inpatients at Matheny, in addition to their primary diagnoses, have a long list of associated clinical conditions, such as vision and hearing deficits, seizure disorders, intellectual disabilities, and dysphagia, with resulting aspiration problems.
• The expertise developed over the years for its inpatients is now available to children and adults in the community at the Center of Medicine and Dentistry, where we treat individuals with significant disabilities in a range of disciplines, all at one site.

Matheny School

• The Matheny School is a New Jersey-approved private school for children with disabilities. When a school district needs the resources to effectively educate students with complex disabilities and associated health needs, Matheny is there to help.
• At Matheny, no disability is a barrier to learning. Our students learn in small, supportive class groupings, with plenty of individual attention. Through the use of adaptive techniques and instructional and assistive technology, we provide universal access to any learning activity.

Matheny in the Community

• Matheny Community Residences provide independent living opportunities for adults in group home settings.
• We reach out to partners in the community through a very special program called Community Connections.
• The Matheny Center of Medicine and Dentistry services people in the community with disabilities through outpatient medical, dental, therapy, and wheelchair clinical centers.
• We help public school districts better manage the challenges of educating their special needs students through contract services and consulting.
