Child Play Therapy with a Family Connection, LLC

Are you looking for the best way to help your pre-K - teenage child?
Maybe we can help!

How do you help a child with emotional issues?

Play therapy could be the answer you are looking for.

Play is the child’s natural form of communication.  During their play, children reveal unconscious fears, worries, thoughts and wishes.  The toys are the child’s words.

The play therapist is trained to read the meaning of the child’s play, and as patterns or themes emerge, she shares her thoughts with parents, and a plan is developed to work toward a healing process both at home and in the play therapy room.

Every child is different with different needs at each stage of their lives.  That is why our treatment is prescriptive just for your child and family.

Our practice is totally dedicated to children and families.  We work with children from 3-12 years old using play therapy. The teen years can be a struggle for both the child and the family.  We can teach skills and strategies to help teens cope. Sometimes the entire family needs help to deal with dysfunctional behaviors.  We can work together to find solutions.

Does your child show signs of issues such as:

Low self esteem; withdrawn behavior; aggressiveness; nightmares; lying; attention problems;  difficulty with peers; anxiety & fears; separation problems; coping with death; temper tantrums; adjustments to a new baby; immaturity; sibling rivalry; misbehavior at school; sadness; poor organization; adjustment to divorce?

Play therapy is a way to help a young child express their feelings and begin to solve the problems.

Regardless of the symptoms, there are three major goals of play therapy.  These are: improved self-worth, self-responsibility and decision making skills.

How Do We Get Started?

Initially parents come without the child for an intake meeting.  This gives us a chance to talk about your concerns, take a developmental history and decide the most pressing issues.

During the next session the child is introduced to the therapist and the play room (siblings can come too!)

Next time, parents come and attend the first 10 minutes of the session in the playroom with their child.  The rest of the time is spent with the child and therapist alone.

After five individual sessions with the child, parents and the therapist meet alone again to discuss a plan of action and treatment plan.
