Al-Anon / Alateen North Jersey Information Services, Inc.

The purpose of Al-Anon is threefold: to welcome and give comfort to the families of alcoholics; and to give understanding and encouragement to the alcoholic and to grow spiritually through living by the 12 Steps of Al-Anon. The Al-Anon Family Groups consist of relatives and friends of alcoholics who, by banding together, can better solve their common problems. Both before and after the alcoholic joins A.A. or if they do not seek help, there is a great deal that the families can do to help themselves and the alcoholic.

Al-Anon’s Purpose
To help families and friends of alcoholics recover from the effects of living with the problem drinking of a relative or friend. Similarly, Alateen is our recovery program for young people. Alateen groups are sponsored by Al-Anon members. Our program of recovery is adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous and is based upon the Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions, and Twelve Concepts of Service. The only requirement for membership is that there be a problem of alcoholism in a relative or friend. Al-Anon/Alateen is not affiliated with any other organization or outside entity.

Alateen
Alateen is the gathering of teenagers who find strength, hope and understanding by relating to one another and the alcoholic problem in family or close friends. Together, along with the 12 Steps of Al Anon, they find a common goal of detachment with love followed by serenity.
