NORWESCAP

NORWESCAP is a private, non-profit corporation originally established in 1965 under the Economic Opportunity Act to serve the low-income population of Hunterdon, Somerset, Sussex and Warren Counties. 

The Northwest New Jersey Community Action Partnership had great political power in the community and the state in 1966, along with a $3 million budget and the administrative staff of the Executive Director and three Assistant Directors. The agency was in the community with one dozen service centers (outreach offices) in the three counties providing direct access to agency staff in the community. 

Children Services
The educational and financial resource center for families and the child care community. Child and Family Resource Services enables the community to access a broad range of services for children and families. 

Case Management
The case management approach provides better coordinated services in the community and can also provide improved access to supportive services to assist individuals and families reach their goals.  Included in this category are programs that also focus on assisting women gain personal and economic self-sufficiency.

Economic Development

Housing and Energy Services
Housing and Energy Services provides the following programs and services: LIHEAP (Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program), Weatherization Assistance Program, USF (Universal Service Fund), and other programs to assist low income individuals and families with their heating & cooling costs. There are also several housing projects that are aimed at providing safe and affordable housing to low-income families.

Information Services
Operates the Warren County Helpline, called First Call for Help. It is very difficult to navigate the difficult and complex social service delivery system. Information on various resources are identified, cataloged and provided to individuals that are unsure of where to turn for assistance with a program. Information on local, county and statewide resources is also available and the service is free

Nutrition & Health
Provides services to aid in the relief of hunger. Programs that focus on helping individuals and children achieve better health are also available in several counties. There are many benefits of these programs including health screening and nutritious foods.

Volunteer Services
While opportunities exist within NORWESCAP for individuals to volunteer their time, or talent, other volunteer opportunities within the community also exist. These programs provide an opportunity for individuals to make a difference and impact the communities that they serve.
