Hunterdon Behavioral Health Emergency Department
The Psychiatric Emergency Service at Hunterdon Behavioral Health is a Screening Center for Hunterdon County. In the event of an emergency, call 908-788-6400. Emergency services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Our highly trained staff has extensive experience in crisis intervention strategies. We can provide linkage and referral to community agencies as well as to Hunterdon Behavioral Health, upon completion of emergency services. We provide consultation and support to family members of individuals in need of mental health services.

Emergency Evaluation Services
Emergency Mental Health Services can be accessed through the Emergency Department at Hunterdon Medical Center. Potential patients receive medical clearance from Emergency Department physicians, who then call for a behavioral health consult from our crisis clinicians.

Mobile Outreach
Hunterdon Behavioral Health offers mobile outreach visits in order to divert individuals from unneeded hospitalizations before they increase in severity. Our experienced outreach clinicians work closely with local police departments to ensure the safety of potential clients and the public.

Children and Adolescents
Hunterdon Behavioral Health also offers mobile outreach services to adolescents and children in Hunterdon County. Parental consent is required to treat individuals under 18 years of age. We recognize that sometimes it is more appropriate to intervene with children in a community setting rather than expose them to a hospital Emergency Room experience. We find crisis intervention in a home or school setting to be a very effective alternative to an ER visit. Consent is required.

IFSS – Intensive Family Support Services
IFSS provides education and support to families of individuals with severe and chronic mental illness. Services are provided through in-home and on-site family educational and supportive counseling, advocacy, referral and linkages, psycho-educational workshops, family support groups, and respite services to relieve the family burden. The major goals of the program are to reduce isolation, stigma, and increase their understanding of mental illness through providing supportive counseling and respite services.

C.A.R.E. – Crisis, Acute, Resources and Education
C.A.R.E. is designed to meet the needs of families in the midst of a psychiatric crisis. We provide support in the Emergency Services Screening Center.  The goal of the program is to provide immediate support to families, linkages with community resources including NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), and to all the services IFSS provides.
